Pembrokeshire Badger Cull
We at WWV HQ are active in the building campaign against the Pembrokeshire badger cull, planned to start in May 2010.
To our mind, you can go at this one in stages -
- The badger cull is clearly wrong on moral and scientific grounds, and you don't have to be a vegetarian to realise that. If you want help stop the cull, regardless of dietary preference, join us in Pembrokeshire Against the Cull (PAC), http://www.pembrokeshireagainstthecull.org.uk./ There is much you can get involved with.
- However, in our opinion, the problem also needs dealing with at source - the dairy industry. Dairy farmers at a recent public meeting organised by the local Wildlife Trusts stated that they want badgers killed regardless of the TB issue. They think there are "too many" of them. Prominent high profile dairy farmers lobbied Welsh AMs to vote in favour of a cull. If we didn't farm cows, there wouldn't be cattle with TB and there would be no excuse to scapegoat wildlife. And vitally - going vegan is essential to stop the suffering of the poor dairy cows. Please see Viva!s website http://www.milkmyths.org.uk.
- If you don’t feel up to going vegan yet, boycott the dairy products from farms who we know are anti-badger. Please contact us for the list of who to write to.
- Ask the proprietors of farmhouse accommodation in the North Pembrokeshire area if they are against the cull. If they cannot reassure you - boycott them, and encourage friends and family to do likewise. Get friends and relatives from other parts of Britain (or the world) to email Pembrokeshire County Council’s tourism website - Protected email address - and tell them why they are boycotting these operators. Email the Welsh Tourist Board - Protected email address. If you have corporate connections, see if you can persuade them to take their business elsewhere
- Join Badger Watch and Rescue Dyfed, a committed and caring organisation of which we are members.
