Description
West Wales Vegetarians was set up by Adrian Stallwood and Monica Fernandez in May 2009, to promote an animal free lifestyle and offer a social forum for animal advocates. Our main emphases are now two fold - on healthy and exciting animal free eating, and campaigning more broadly for animal welfare (the two often overlap!), within a supportive and friendly group.
We have helped organise numerous events against the badger cull, participated in Viva! action days and fundraisers (including the epic 100 mile cycle!). We work actively with the League of Cruel Sports and Animal Aid.We would love to hear from those of you who are attracted to a more active role in animal outreach.
Through our social events, we bring together like-minded folk and dispel the feeling of isolation that can come with being veggie in such a livestock-loaded part of the world. We want to enjoy ourselves and feel good about a positive lifestyle choice.
It can sometimes seem that there is nothing more to West Wales than meat, dairy or fish. We can show that a veggie diet is as easy, as delicious and as worthy of evangelising. Seasonal produce is always available locally, whilst home-grown, bartered and foraged foods offer tastes that money can't buy.
By eating out and recommending the best spots, we will encourage restaurants and shops in West Wales to view veg*nism as a growing and dynamic movement, not just a bunch of cranks who can't eat anything!
We are customers of a leading food co-operative, and receive regular deliveries of store cupboard staples, cheatin' meats and cheeses and vegan-friendly booze - why not join our buying group and save yourself money?
There is no membership fee and no catch. You don't have to be vegetarian to come to our events or dinners. We're not weird and we don't bite (apart from chomping on delicious grub). What have you got to lose?
West Wales Vegetarians is lovingly nutured by :
Adrian Stallwood

An emergency doctor by profession, an animal lover by choice and a guitarist to rival Jerry Garcia in his dreams.
Monica Fernandez

A basketmaker by choice, a very small smallholder and a secret whisky lover
We are both vegans when eating out, and vegetarians at home (we keep a few free-range rescued chickens who are currently growing old gracefully). We love cycling and walking in some of the UK’s best wildlife areas, and growing our own fruit and veg. We are keen amateur naturalists and can rustle up a wild food meal at most times of the year. We are also local contacts for Viva!, the UK’s most successful animal campaigning organisation. The best way to respect animals – both farmed and wild – is not to eat them, but they also need a voice.
